This is an amazing facility , YanLing Chen is most loving and responsible manager with awesome staffs! They all are Angels! You may have heard how at some places the staff neglected or ignored the needs of elderly, not this place! My mother stayed there for about 5 years. At first hesitant to move into assisted living, then loved its tender loving care! My mom loved the experience! They are professionals with a heart! It may be the only place you do not have that horrible smell when you walk into such a facility. I would highly recommend this place! We are not related to the owner , manager. My mother passed , and Ms. Chen and Maria watched her closely through the night! During Covid , I heard not one person came!down with it! They are utmost careful and clean! God bless them all!

My dad moved into HoP back in January 2021. He has dementia and not an easy person to work with. He adjusted so well after 2 months and call this his home now. My mom had a couple of falls a couple of months ago and was advised not to live by herself anymore. While considering all our options, mom decided that she wanted to move into HoP also. She's been there for almost a month and she absolutely LOVES this place. The food is always warm and taste very good. The staff are also very nice, especially the owner Lynn, she is a Godsend! It's hard to send our parents to a nursing home but we are very relieved that they are at a loving place and being well taken of.

At age 62 my mother had experienced severe depression and our family needed to place her into Assisted Living for around the clock care. After being cared for at her first facility for 21 years the facility closed down and our family needed to find another care home. Our family came upon a small care home, House of Psalms, located in Oakland. My sister and I set up an appointment the meet with House of Psalms owner Lynn Chen for placement and to observe the care that was being administered at the facility. We observed the facility was well managed and clients well cared for. The facility is well kept and clean. We observed client diversity at House of Psalms and staff is bilingual. We observed adequate staff to care for the elderly. House of Psalms offers weekly prayer services and we noticed elderly clients performing exercises from their wheelchairs while watching exercise videos. Our family was fortunate to be able to place mom at House of Psalms at age 83. When our family of 4 siblings visits mom, we know that she is well taken care of. Lynn and her seasoned staff, including Marie, interacts with mom on a daily basis. Mom is wheel chair bound and requires help for "Activities of Daily Life". Lynn's staff helps mom to bed, showers, incontinence, haircuts, etc). Lynn, Marie, and staff are kind and caring. When mom starts singing she sometimes entices staff to since along with her. Lynn and staff exercise patience while caring for the elderly. Lynn not only handles her administrative duties as owner, she is often seen cooking meals, helps with keeping the facility clean, and does grocery shopping. In the case of House of Psalms, smaller is better with tender loving care.

My friend was in the House of Psalms for the last several months of her life. Lynn and her staff went out of their way to make her as comfortable as possible. She had dementia and difficult behaviors, such as throwing things at people. They all worked very hard, showing great patience and love for her. Eventually, she became more at peace and came to accept her caregivers and those she was living with. Also, the food was very good, and they did a wonderful job on the holidays, also inviting family members and friends to a very extensive dinner. House of Psalms is also very clean. I would highly recommend it for someone looking for more affordable assisted living.

I can truly say there is no kinder place that I have come across for compassionate care that aims at a long life and true, independent health at the resident's level of ability. The staff is top-notch and full of love for their work, dedication to their patients, and understanding that they are creating a home. I want to say that I truly value and appreciate this place and the beautiful team and residents that make it all happen. Simply the best.
