My uncle lives here and it has been the best living situation he has had in years. The food situation he says is great, he lost 30 lbs since switching to the much healthier food options than he had at his previous group homes. The staff is really great he says and they allow small pets. I would give it a 4.5 star review The only reason I'm not giving a 5 stars is because the elevators go out every so often due to tenants running into the doors.but my uncle has gotten a bit more exercise when he takes the stairs so that's a plus! They have a hair salon and a small tenant run shop which my uncle loves. The new owners have really invested into the property and it shows. Since my uncle moved in they redid the floors, gave it a fresh coat of paint. Keep up the great work! They have various levels of care from lower need care to assisted living. Compared to smaller size group homes where you are spending much more the prices are more than reasonable.

Lean excellent maintenance staff, like all large kitchens lot of help turnover so food quality varies daily. Soups and pastries usually excellent.

Warm, friendly, fabulous views from most rooms. All rooms have balconies! And, the food is really good. What’s not to like? Calaroga Terrace is one of a kind. Lovely old building with beautifully updated rooms and right across the Steel Bridge from downtown Portland. Oh, and a beautiful, large outdoor terrace, as well. I definitely have found my forever home here.

OMG! We had to make a quick trip to Portland for an emergency. Didn't have much time but stopped to see my aunt living at Caliroga terrace. First of all, as soon as you walk in the front door all you can smell is urine. The place is dark & dingy & completely oppressive. MOST of the time the elevators don't work which scares the hell out of me. My aunt walks w/a walker & is on the 8th floor. If there were an emergency she wouldn't be able to get out! Her apt. was just as antiquated & depressing as the rest of the place. Spent months trying to convince her to move. Called adult protective services only to be told that because the facility is so large, they can't fight them or get them to comply with hardly anything. They said they could only help if she lived in a smaller space. Then last a year or so ago they decided she had bed bugs & blamed it on her. She never goes outside the building. She doesn't even leave her apt but has her meals sent up. There's no way she could have brought them in w/her. The only way they could've gotten into her apt. is by employees tracking them in when they pick up her laundry or bring food. So, and I am not kidding you, they put her under house arrest for 8 months. She wasn't allowed to go anywhere if she wanted to because they said she would spread the bed bugs. She slipped & fell in Nov & was sent to the hospital for a couple weeks. When she got home they had locked her out of her apt. & said she had to live in this empty apartment w/out any of her possessions. She had a bed & a tv. I told her that had to be against the law. She pays for her apt. so she should have access to it to at least get her things. But all they should let her have were clothes & some of her meds. Not even drawers to put her clothes in. Not even an end table to put a lamp on. So she now goes to bed when the sun goes down because she can't see to do anything. I told her to just go down & start bringing her stuff up a bag at a time. But when she tried someone caught her & physically accosted her, screamed at her & sent her away. Now I never find out about this stuff until after the fact. But for the 3 years she has lived there I have never been able to get anyone of authority on the phone. I must have left 100 messages in the last 3 years & no one has ever called me back. When they locked her out of her own apt. I sent the police over there but they got there & said they couldn't do anything. Recently, her Dr. sent a social worker to check on her & even the soc. worker couldn't help, except to try to move her out. At one point they had her talked into moving, but for an unknown reason she changed her mind. Even after the soc. worker took her on tours of some nicer places & she picked one out. I am afraid they may be threatening her in some way to keep her in that place. i live in Calif. & have no money to travel there to get her out. i don't know anyone up there to help. The people I have called, police, soc worker, adult protective services all say they can't help. I have actually sent physical letters there hoping to get someone's attention but they have all been sent back to me unopened. This place is a nightmare! If I had a way to get her out of there I would. whatever you do, do not let anyone, not even your worst enemy move into this place.

ABSOLUTELY FILTHY!!!! For 5+yrs my step father at Calistoga Terrace on NE 2nd Ave. These rooms r purportedly cleaned EVERY week. These r pictures of the state of his apt on 5/6/23. I removed over 20 garbage bags full of old cups, food containers, and assorted other trash, including rotten fruit and food. I took them to the dumpsters outside because they smelled better then the stench of the garbage shute on his floor. I made my complaints clear and was assured the executive director, would contact me on Monday. He did not. I left 4 messages 4 him that day. 11 days later, I’m STILL waiting!!! 5/6 Taked to him. LIED continuously. Contacted by upper management. ill update

great food and hospitality, calaroga terrace keeps a very clean facility and attentive staff. safety and care for my Grandma seems to be represented as an utmost top priority here, it means a lot being as it is during the constant change and mutation of the covid virus. I would highly recommend this facility to others if you are seeking a clean comfortable and enriching environment for your family member to reside in.

Great place with fantastic views, central location and field trips for a variety of interests. My mother in law lives there and the excellent price for all they provide is the best in the marketplace. She has lived there for two years and people are friendly, inclusive fun.

I have been a resident of Calaroga Terrace for a year. During this time there have been ongoing problems with the TV for the past 7-8 months. The laundry facility has more out of order signs on machines than working washers and dryers. I believe currently we have one working dryer. There have been leaking pipes in the dining room, laundry room, front lobby and the hall leading to the auditorium. Some have been repaired, but others have not. We have had new managers in every department (Executive Director, Business Director, managers in house keeping, maintenance, kitchen, marketing and activity departments) after a mass exodus last December. Probably the most concerning has been the continued non working air conditioning system. Recruiting and retaining kitchen, dining room, and assisted living staff has also been a major concern. Last year during the heat wave with temps up to 115 degrees the facility had to bring in portable AC units. One would have expected after a year, repairs would have been completed, however we had no AC over this past 3 day heat wave. Temps in my apartment registered higher than the 88 degree marked on the thermostats. They did get the wall units running late last evening, and today the heat wave broke and it’s very comfortable. That said, This is a very old building, with many ongoing issues. The current Director has been a welcome and refreshing addition to Calaroga. She really cares about the residents here, in both Assisted Living as well as those in Independent Living. She has done a remarkable job given what she walked into in her new roll. I’m told there have been 7-8 Executive Directors in the past 10 years. Unfortunately, without Pacifica’s Corporate support from a financial standpoint to address these ongoing issues I believe this places her in an untenable position. You may be asking why I’m still living here. For now, it’s the friends I have made, my commitment to several volunteer positions I hold and I really do love my apartment! I remain hopeful that things will improve.

Dropping by to say THANK YOU. I moved into an independent apt. at Pacifica Senior Living Calaroga Terrace in 2016 and continue to appreciate the care and concern shown by staff members. During 2020 while we all were sheltered in place the safety measures were outstanding, we were kept safe from COVID-19 exposure, those practices continue in 2021. My family members enjoy their visits here and are amazed by the many activities that are available. Kudos to the Dining room staff, great job everyone!

This place bills itself as "luxury retirement living." But in fact, they seem to be way behind on routine maintenance. For instance, just to start with one thing, on the wing containing room 417, which I visited today, the hallway carpet looks like it hasn't been vacuumed in many days, let alone shampooed. Most people would probably agree it needs to be totally replaced.

I would absolutely choose Calaroga Terrace for my loved one. The director Cyndi is caring, capable and works tirelessly to take care of her residents and team. Chef Bryan is fantastic! He is so accommodating for residents special food needs. The views from the apartments are breathtaking! This is not a cookie cutter assisted living. The arched windows are awesome! The best part about Calaroga Terrace is the residents! They come from all walks of life! Beautiful people who continue to live vibrant lives in the city they love!

12/31/19: It's been a month since our meeting with management and things have been going better. New hires and better management seem to helping. My mom's room has been consistently cleaned and the things we have been promised are being done. Editing my review from 1 to 3 stars. 11/29/19: After I posted this review senior management reached out. We had a very productive meeting and my hope is that a month from now my mom's experience at Calaroga will greatly improve. My Mom feels heard and she and I are cautiously optimistic. 11/24/19: Original review: Please talk to residents first before moving here. My mom has lived her for 2 years and she has never received good service and we have had almost zero response or follow through from management or corporate. The food is mediocre, maintenence and housekeeping is poor, care staff try hard and are good people but underpaid and under trained. Morale is very low. I have tried so many times to get management to improve the situation and now I'm just defeated. So now my mom is basically held captive here because it is too hard to move her. Truly, this is probably not a good choice right now for you or a loved one. Also, the reviews here are misleading. Many of the positive reviews were written by employees I knew personally who have since quit because of poor management. And one of the reviews was posted by the former Director who has also quit in frustration.

Jake Call and his entire crew - from reception to maintenance to dining room staff - provided stellar assistance and support during a recent move from a one bedroom to a two bedroom independent living apartment. This particular 81 year old resident, whom has been entrusted to my Companion Care, was anxious and most fearful of this change. Jake worked with me to communicate with her in the most compassionate, kind and caring manner to be able to facilitate this change. The transition was smooth, quick and went without a hitch. Lenah, who served my Companion during lunch that day, already knew that she was moving and was able to ask her how she was doing in the most caring and respectful manner. This was clutch and did not go unnoticed. Kelly, in Reception, acknowledged my Companion by name when she saw her and also asked her how she was doing. I am so impressed with the consistent, caring and professional manner at Calaroga Terrace. Thank you!!!

Calaroga Terrace has been an integral part of our family for more than a decade. My grandmother lived happily there for 10 years; my mother lived there, and now, we have the privilege of helping my uncle move to this incredible senior living facility. I couldn't recommend this outfit more for accessibility, affordability, care, interactivity, and full service, round-the-clock-and-calendar support and dignity for every elder in my family. Their service team is unparalleled and the social culture, robust, friendly, kind, and welcoming. You'll rest assured knowing that your loved one is in the care of the Calaroga Terrace team.
