October 7, 2025 RE: Pinecrest Retirement Home Review My father is 94 years old with the onset of dementia. He broke his hip and had surgery 18 months ago. Though he recovered from surgery, he was wheelchair bound from that point on. At the time of surgery, he was living in an up-scale assisted living facility, in Lincoln. Just before I moved my father to Pinecrest Retirement Home, I discovered that my father’s needs were being neglected at that facility. This caused a downturn in his health and state of mind. There was no way I was going to leave my father at that facility once I discovered that. I immediately hired a full-time, live-in caretaker and moved dad in with me. All three of us contracted Covid 2 weeks after dad moved in. I really thought I was going to lose him. I bought an electric lift, which barely cleared the door frames, so that dad wouldn’t be bed bound. It was a difficult feat for the caretaker to get dad out of bed, into the lift, and out the bedroom door and down the narrow hallway. My father is a larger than average man. His daily needs proved more challenging than I had anticipated. I have a physical disability and could not help with that task. After attempting to care for my father for two months, I realized that dad needed care from a professional caretaker. The caretaker I had hired had minimal experience. I found out through a friend about Pinecrest Retirement Home, in Auburn, CA. My friend’s mother was a resident there for over 10 years. He spoke highly of Pinecrest. He explained it is family operated and not like an institutional facility. The family members are very caring and unselfish, devoting their lives to making their residents comfortable and safe. I immediately met with the Moktan’s before moving dad in with them. He introduced me to his family. Then, Danny Moktan gave me the tour of the house and grounds, while telling me about the services they provide, and their family. Hearing that the Moktan’s prepare fresh, healthy meals daily gave me peace of mind, as dad has diabetes. No cafeteria style food. The family was warm and inviting. Their residents were cleanly dressed and appeared content. The next day, I moved dad into Pinecrest. He has been there for just over a year. His health and appetite have improved. The family dresses my dad every morning, gets him into his wheelchair and into the living room with the other residents. He eats all three meals at the dining room table, mostly feeding himself. He had been unable to feed himself when he lived with me for the prior two months. Prior to dad living at Pinecrest, I was a nervous wreck, always worried was dad getting the daily care he needed. Now, I have peace of mind that dad is receiving excellent care at Pinecrest. Terre Arthur Cool, CA
