My father has vascular dementia, lost his longtime girlfriend on Christmas Day and could not stay alone. We enrolled him at the Courtyards, after they ensured us they could handle someone with memory issues. Less than two weeks in, he had to have a procedure that required anesthesia. I took him for pre-op on a Tuesday, when we returned, we walked in to one of the workers agressively striking the hands of another tenant, several times, and yelling at him to let go of another lady's wheelchair. I was shocked at how violent she was smacking his hands. After my father's procedure, the VA sent him back to the Courtyards and he was very disoriented and confused. He tried to leave to 'go home' and the staff tried to physically restrain him (which is not what you do to a dementia patient). He started swinging and kicking. They put him in arm restraints and sent him back to the VA and then refused to let him come back. We paid the deposit and his first months rent (close to $6000) and he was there two weeks. I understand violence is not tolerated, however, staff should be trained in how to properly handle a disoriented dementia patient instead of immediatley trying to physically restrain them. Also, is it okay for the staff to be abusive to the tenants like I witnessed? I DO NOT recommend sending a loved one there, especially one with memory issues.

I am very happy with Courtyards. My Mother is a resident. They r very good to her. They have lots of activities and great food. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. My Mom is very happy here.

Wonderful! My mom recently stayed there for respite care in the assisted living facility while we were out of town. The facility was clean, and the staff was friendly and attentive to her needs. She also thought the food was good and enjoyed the recreational activities. Highly recommended for either respite or long-term care!
