Rent increases in excess of 10% each year. We told management that we did not want the unit next to a smoker and that we did not want to sign the lease until the fall. they invited me to a dinner and told me if i put down a deposit, i would have a lower rent and any increase would be on the lower rent. unfortunately, i later found out that i had signed the lease and was now paying monthly for an apartment that i could not move until until the fall. the preferential rent was canceled in december when rent increases were announced and my increase was based on the 'market price' for the apartment and not the actual rate i was paying- it was nearly a 15% increase- too much for large staff turnover, elevator malfunctions, a pool that is not maintained well, and hallways that smell of smoke (12th floor).

My father lived at Brookdale for 14 years. When he was more active, he enjoyed the social activities and as his health declined, we all appreciated the fact that Brookdale has a doctor and rehab facilities on site. When my father broke his hip during Covid, the ability to rehab at home was a huge benefit. I've always found the staff to be extremely helpful, kind and responsive.

My Aunt has spent almost 5 years at Brookdale Battery Park. She really enjoys the activities/music programs. Seems like there is always a new program coming up. She likes the meals that are offered and the staff is very friendly. The entire staff has been very professional dealing her and our family. They all know her name and treat her with respect. If you have a loved who needs some extra care I would recommend Brookdale Battery Park highly.

Excellent senior living environment. Brightly lit and beautifully appointed common living spaces. Attractive dining room overlooking a small park across the street. Friendly and attentive staff. One block from Hudson River and walking trails.

The Brookdale Battery Park team administration have been indispensable to my mother (91) after over 3 years of independent living. Especially under the pressures of the pandemic. They transformed into a well organized team that protected their residents by mandating PPE for all residents, testing residents daily care staff and even to delivering breakfast, lunch and dinner to EVERY resident to help maintain distancing and quarantine for those that needed it. I cant imagine a better residence in New York City for my Mom to be. The building equipment are immaculate. Prior to Covid the activities are varied encourage social interaction that residents enjoy can create. Theyve had painting, movies, a weekly live pianist and a bustling happy hour, trips to casinos-museums and shopping, sit down white cloth dining with wait staff and so many other events. Weve always joked Brookdale is basically a cruise ship without the seasickness. Its a great place for an older loved one to retire relax. I highly recommend Brookdale if youre looking.

Weve lived here a little over a year - from the first tour, to move-in assistance and ongoing support, it was definitely the right decision. Its a beautiful place in an amazing neighborhood. They offer numerous activities and when quarantines began, they didnt skip a beat going virtual with as many activities as they could. All the efforts by management and staff during the many difficult months were outstanding. They have done everything they can to keep us safe and healthy and its been working. From needing moderate help to real hands on assistance, they provide it all- would definitely recommend.

Dad recently moved to Brookdale Battery Park City from New Jersey to be near my family here in Manhattan. He has a great apartment, lovely neighbors, lots going on, and all manner of top-notch help if he wants it. I highly recommend Brookdale to families looking for a similar set-up!

The staff is excellent and caring. The neighborhood is great for walks.. with parks and greenery it seems more like an upscale suburb of Manhattan - cleaner, quieter. If thats your cup of tea, this could be the place for you. My wife and I moved here from London after 50 years abroad, most of that time as a foreign correspondent for CBS News. We have lived at Brookdale for three years but did not fully realize its value until we saw how well the staff protected and cared for us during the pandemic.

I want to thank everyone at Brookdale Battery Park for the amazing job they have done over the last months of this pandemic. They have made it a safe and pleasant environment with everything going on. They have provided meals to everyone and really taken care of the residents health and well being. It is a wonderful place. In a great neighborhood. Even with the pandemic the residents have been able to walk along the Hudson for exercise.

My mom has been living here for over 3 years. She is still very active and loves the various exercise classes, lectures, concerts and events. The instructors and staff are amazing. I have stayed with her a few times and enjoyed the excellent food and the wonderful staff. Before the pandemic they had a lot of opportunities to go to concerts, museums, and other outings together, and since the quarantine the staff has taken excellent care of everyone and provided many Zoom and socially distanced in-person activities.

My Father moved in last November and I have been really impressed with the care and attention they provide for him. Whenever I make a request or if he needs some help with something someone is there almost immediately to attend to his needs. The staff all seem extremely well organized and know the particular needs my dad has. The meal service is great and they tailor everything to his dietary needs. Not to mention the location which is absolutely fantastic with the beautiful battery park city promenade only a block away. My father can take walks when the weather is nice along the waterfront. I couldnt be happier with Brookdale and definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a place for their elderly loved ones to get the care and attention they need in a place that doesnt feel like a retirement community at all.

Brookdale Battery Park City is situated in an urban oasis of trees nearby parks. The Hudson River is just around the corner.. It is truly an outstanding facility. There are a multitude of activities, even during the Coronavirus. The staff is friendly and goes out of their way to make residents feel welcome comfortable. The maintenance staff responds quickly to any problem. There is transportation to medical appointments as well as a doctor on staff. The chef tries hard to accommodate meal preferences with a varied choice of foods including vegetarian items. High end shopping is nearby at Brookfield Place and the Tribeca neighborhood. When the Coronavirus abates, there will be shopping museum excursions.

My wife and I — both in our mid-90s — moved to Brookdale a year-and-a-half ago, after many pleasant years in Northern Westchester — and are very glad we did. The adjustment was surprisingly easy: staff has been unfailingly courteous, helpful, and responsive to our needs. The food is varied and very good. (The recent Christmas Day dinner was outstanding!) The many activities snd programs — movies, concerts, lectures — are interesting and enjoyable. Weve recommended Brookdale to many of our friends.

My mom and dad moved here 10 years ago. When Dad needed assistance, the aides were there to provide it and always with a smile. He is no longer with us, but Mom continues to thrive. She loves it and is on many committees and groups. Activites are many and various - cant enumerate them all, but suffice to say that there is something for everyone. My siblings and I always visited her at least once a week before Covid and had many wonderful dinners in the dining room. Mom has many friends here, but unfortunately, she hasnt been able to see them this year, so in lieu of visits with her friends, she especially loves having the ability to walk along the Hudson and in the parks - the location could not be better suited for her and the safety of the area makes us all feel content that she is safe. Since the pandemic hit, we could not be happier with the care and attention given to the residents since we could not be there in person. The daily communications at the beginning of the pandemic were a lifeline to all the families and everyone at Brookdale is so responsive. We feel that Brookdale is the best place for her and we especially appreciate the attentions of Brendan, Leila, Whitney and Dr. Q. We are so happy with Brookdale that we recently had another family member move in and he is very happy, as well. Highly recommended!!!

My Mum is so happy and grateful that she made her decision to move to Brookdale Battery Park over 2 years ago. She loves her sunny apartment and most important, feels so safe and content in her new home surrounded by such a caring and dedicated community management team and staff. Great care is given to organizing indoor and outdoor activities as well as private transportation to any appointments. Living now in such a beautiful area of lower Manhattan in Battery Park, she is so close to movie theatres, shopping areas and gets to stroll along the Hudson River for her many daily walks that she loves!

The reason I like very much living in this residence is because of the many interesting and lively activities which have been available to those who live here. I take advantage of so many physical and mental stretches to my life. Those who direct activities as well as those of us who participate, enjoy a life style that suits us because can truly enjoy the outdoor as well as indoor activities.

Used to be The Hallmark, we once were guests of one of the seniors living there and i tell you - it was an experience ill never forget. The food itself was Micheline star quality and the place has amazing view and atmosphere. The residents didnt look too unhappy as well. Seems like a good place to end the journey...

We toured this community for my mom. We did like that they had a large elevator for the residents to get to the lower floor. The menu is appealing and they offer a lot of choices. This is a community that is able to give all types of different care We like this community for the nice care that is offered from the questions that the staff was able to answer. We would recommend that families tour this community for the care of a loved one for the options that are available.
