A legal document should mean something. A tenant is certainly held to the terms of a lease. My father was a long-standing member of the Canterbury community. After his passing, month after month, my inquiries regarding the return of his security deposit were ignored. Once it was determined that the funds should not have been held due to a "possible bill for the storage of his body from the coroner's office," expediting the check was fully expected, especially since there is no provision for this action in the lease terms. The amount of the check, the estate name, and the mailing address were confirmed mid-April, yet still no return of the deposit. Meanwhile, his estate remains unsettled. It's hoped this does not happen to other "valued members" of the Canterbury community or their families. The Gene & Virginia Waye Family

Just love Canterbury on the Lake, my mom has resided in both the assisted living (the Leas) and the memory care (the Meadows). Both communities have so many activities to keep the residents engaged. The caregivers are kind and are very approachable as is the management, and are quick to respond and help through the changing times.

Best staff ever. My mother is a resident and every interaction I have with them is wonderful. They work very hard to help resolve any problems and pay they attention to your needs. I've actually dealt with other places for my fathers care and I promise they are hands down a cut above the rest because they care. Thanks to Michelle and Amber…top notch!

When they transferred my Dad from the hospital it was on the weekend and maybe they were short staffed but he was pushed in his room nothing hooked up to call for help no lights were on so he was in the dark and no phone hooked up so I take care of that ordered him something to eat and warm blankets. Most of the staff were friendly and I believe that did the best they could but my issue is with the social worker this young woman's poor attitude and how she addressed my father upset me and I had to get this off my chest because I don't want her nasty attitude to prevail. I suggest that if you have loved ones in this facility please go check on them everyday make sure you speak with the dietitian about the things they like to eat and if help is needed to eat. Get to know who is helping your love one daily because it changes work with the staff for a great stay for your loved one. My father has passed away now but I'll never forget how I found him that day with no means of getting help and in the dark. I saw you response and I'll call ASAP because after all this time it still bothers me.

My son needed a rehabilitation facility for several weeks after an accident before going home. Canterbury was a very good fit for us! The staff was very caring, friendly, and professional. The atmosphere was relaxed and positive. I spent most of my days there with him so I had a lot of time to observe the interactions of the patients, staff, administration, and families. I saw teamwork, support and caring for each other, and many small kindnesses and smiles each day. Yes, there were a few snags and delays, but overall we both were very, very glad to have Caterbury as our temporary home.

What a great place to live! Great residents, friendly and helpful staff, interesting surroundings with great character, beautiful grounds overlooking a lake, and very nice apartments. Loving it!

It is been the best move my 92 year old mother ever could have made! She enjoys the social interaction and all the great activities they have to offer. It is comforting for our family to know the great care she is receiving!

I am in Southminster which is the Independent living section. The people here are very friendly and the activities are great. No excuse to be bored. The Resident Service staff is fabulous.

Many of my friends have had family members at Canterbury-on-the -Lake and each one of them was amazingly happy! The facility can cater to all types of needs, from independent to nursing and memory care! The food is delicious and healthy and it is never a problem to cater to dietary needs. I personally know some of the staff - they are compassionate, friendly and helpful and they always have a smile on their face and happy to help! Canterbury-on-the-Lake is truly one-of-a-kind!
September 2022
My mom (92) and recently widowed after 73 yesrs of marriage moved into Southminster ( independent living) in February 2022. The staff has been attentive and quick to respond throughout the whole process of moving mom in and getting her acclimated to her new surroundings. The people who live there are very outgoing and welcoming and have reached out consistently to include my mom in a variety of activities. The food is very good and even though the dining room has been closed a few times due to staffing the kitchen has always provided food for take out to your room. Her apartment has brand new carpet and paint and the facilities people have been very responsive when we needed something taken care inside her apartment. I personally have met many people while visiting my mom and feel I have made new friends as well. I would recommend this facility to anyone who has a parent that needs a safe and active place to live as they age.
September 2022
Highly attentive and extremely quick to respond, their staff is fantastic and exactly what I was looking for when searching for a community for my mother's next transition! My mother had been living with my wife and I for the last 7 years, but was at a point where she needed more care and attention than we were capable of giving her. Shannon and her staff made this transition so simple and painless for not only me and my wife, but for my mother as well. They have numerous activities throughout the day that she has been taking full advantage of, and I finally feel as though she is thriving instead of just existing. It is a beautiful community, in a beautiful area, and I can not say enough about how happy and contented I am knowing that my mom is in loving, trustworthy hands. Thank you to everyone at Canterbury for giving me peace of mind, and taking such great care of the woman that took such fantastic care of me!!
August 2022
My mother has been in rehab there for about a month and currently is there. The food is good. My issue is the lack of communication or even the ability to communicate w her caregivers. I leave messages for them to call me and no one ever does. I have asked for updates on her progress and no one calls me. I have complained to a oncall mgr and the director . There has been no improvement. She will be released in 2 days and i have no idea what kind of home care she will need. i would like to arrange it ahead of her discharge. I am completely in the dark and am very unhappy about their disregard. I would not recommend this place.
August 2022
My mother had ALZ when she moved into the memory care wing, The Meadows, at Canterbury on the Lake. I can't say enough about the love, compassion and fun the team at The Meadows displays every day. It's a wonderful place for your loved one who needs that level of care. Amazing!
July 2022
My wife has worked at Canterbury-on-the-Lake for almost two years and I can tell you one thing for sure: the staff truly cares about the residents! They are invested in their lives and genuinely care about their happiness and well-being. They go above and beyond to serve the residents daily. Each time I have visited Canterbury, it has been clearly evident that the staff and residents share a familial bond.
July 2022
I am happy to say Canterbury on the Lake has always been good to many friends that I have referred to them. Currently, we have friends parents in independent living. I have had Canterbury help with friends parents that need rehab and full nursing care. Our daughter used to volunteer there in college and she loved it. I always recommend any friend that needs a place they can depend on.
May 2022
Unfortunately I fell walking my dog and I fractured my Femur. I was accepted right away at Canterbury on the Lake. The transition from the hospital to Canterbury was smooth and worry-free. When I got to Canterbury I was greeted by the management staff who were very nice, professional and helpful. My room was a private room and was very comfortable and clean. The Therapy staff are wonderful. They have designed a program that fits each person individually. The therapy that I have received has prepared me to get ready for the transition back to home. The Doctors, the nursing staff, CNA's, housekeeping, kitchen staff, the unit clerks, and all other departments excel at their jobs. The food is wonderful. The building is clean, quiet, and setup nicely. If I had to recommend a Rehab/Nursing Center to someone, Canterbury on the Lake would be my first choice. Thank you Canterbury for taking such good care of me.
May 2022
My Mother moved into independent Living at Canterbury on the Lake in January. She loves the place! I have been there many times to visit and have dinner with Mom. The staff is excellent. The food is very good. The staff is always helpful and understand that this transition can be difficult. They seem to always and find a way to resolve any issue. Thank you

My mom has lived in Canterbury for over three years in Assisted living. Best decision ever! The building and grounds are well maintained and beautiful. The residents are treated with respect and the focus is to keep them vibrant individuals - which means lots of activities, attention and fun. The staff is wonderful and so caring. Family is always encouraged to drop-in. My sister and I can't say enough about how great the staff at Canterbury has been to my mom.

I can't say enough good things about Canterbury-on- the-Lake. My dad has lived in Southminister for about a year now. He is in a lovely apartment with a beautiful view of the grounds. The staff from day one has been outstanding. They are kind, respectful, helpful and entertaining to the residents as well as families of the residents. The staff is there for the residents and are very good at responding to any question or issue you need help with. It is a very positive atmosphere. Everyone has a smile on their face Staff and Residents! There is an update and weekly calendar that is emailed every week to keep you and your loved ones informed on what is happening. My dad has made many new friends while enjoying dinner together, putting on the green, playing corn hole, happy hour on Thursdays or Friday night movies. Our experience at Cantebury-on-the-Lake has been 5 Star!

We really enjoy living here. The employees are super! The facilities are wonderful, and the food is good. I would recommend living here to anyone. My husband and I have lived here for 3.5 years, and have enjoyed every minute of it. We love putt putt, bingo, and bean bag toss. We enjoy happy hour too.
February 2021
Since Canterbury is such a large facility, I find it very uplifting that the staff puts so much time into making life enjoyable for the residents. Daily activities such as arts and crafts, bingo, charades, and happy hour are just a few examplez of the sources of entertainment that Canterbury has to offer.
February 2021
Canterbury has a tremendous culture of compassionate care workers throughout the entire community. I highly recommend Canterbury on the Lake for you or your loved ones and we look forward to meeting them.

As an employee here for close to a decade, I can say that this team brings much experience and compassion to caring for our residents. Big picture down to little details we make things come together to benefit the people living at this community.
December 2020
I have worked at COTL for 4yrs now and TINA BRINDLEY is the BEST DON by far! She came to the facility with a WEALTH of knowledge and HUGE focus on THE RESIDENTS! Tina is just what the facility needed! Her experience is remarkable, she was implementing safety procedures during this terrible time of Covid before the governor even thought about it! Tina is fair and will help you in any way she can! Tina has a heart of gold and is extremely hard working when it comes to the residents and the staff! One thing for sure and two things for certain CANTERBURY STAFF AND RESIDENTS LOVE TINA BRINDLEY!!!!Canterbury is a very clean and beautiful facility and we have staff who has worked there for 25yrs!
December 2020
Being a scheduler during a pandemic has been very difficult but the team at canterbury-on-the-lake has made it easy to to my job during difficult times. A large part of that is due to the DON. She appreciates all her staff and lets them know it. She also holds her staff to high standards which has kept the virus out of our building. I dont think we could have made it through this without her. I have seen other managers be ok with mediocre staff because the numbers look good on paper. I like having a DON that cares about our residents and the people that take care of them.
December 2020
I have worked for COTL for almost 3 year back in Feb, March right before COVID all hit we got a new Director nursing. Tina has been a god sent to this company through is pandemic. She has been the voice for the residents and the staff in this time of need. She has put her family aside to make sure we get what we need to get through these im president times. She makes me comfortable to come to her about anything even family related issues not just work. Thank you Tina for all you do for everyone at COTL. I appreciate you !
December 2020
Its been a great place for Mom! She is well cared for and has a ton of friends.

I absolutely love Canterbury-on-the-lake. I have a professional relationship with this facility in that I teach classes here. When I chat with the residents, theyre all very happy and have a great sense of community. The staff knows each person by name and treats them like well loved family. You can actually feel the love that surrounds the people in this building. The workers here actually care about their residents and their jobs and you can see that. Its a beautiful facility.

When my grandma started needing some extra care and my family started looking for a nursing home for her to stay in, I was so glad that she ended up at Canterbury on the Lake. Everyone was so attentive and friendly that you could tell she was really enjoying her time there. They made sure to keep my parents up to date on all of the care she was receiving, so everyone had peace of mind knowing grandma was being well taken care of. I would highly recommend Canterbury on the Lake for any senior living.
August 2020

August 2020
Canterbury is a clean, beautiful place. The staff at Canterbury is very friendly and were attentive to my moms needs. She needed rehab when she first arrived and the staff took great care of her and were very patient in assisting with her recovery. The care team was wonderful and kept us abreast of her situation regularly. We were comforted knowing she was in a safe, caring environment. Thank you for taking good care of my mom!
July 2020
I recently helped my parents move in to Canterbury and found the facility, services and particularly the staff to be outstanding. Moving in during the Covid-19 pandemic was handled extremely well by all involved. The facility is very clean, up-to-date and well kept. My parents apartment looked brand new. Every resident that we spoke to had nothing but good things to say about the facility. Our interaction with Shannon Siburt, Director of Sales, who provided our initial tour, handling the lease, and managing the move-in has been outstanding. Shannon is always extremely helpful, knowledgeable and efficient.I highly recommend Canterbury-on-the-lake. It is an ideal retirement community and senior care facility.
July 2020
My Mother moved into the Independent Living area a little over a year ago. I cannot say enough good things about Canterbury. They have gone out of their way to make her feel at home & keep her safe during this Covid Epidemic. I really appreciate the way they communicate what their plans are - even though some of the plans have changed over time because of extenuating circumstances. I feel Canterbury is doing all they can to keep their residents secure & well.I especially appreciate Jaimie Martin and Liz Vachon. They have helped me stay in face-to-face communication with my Mother and she and I are very glad we get to see one another occasionally, even if it is only through facetime. I also can see her and talk to her through her second story apartment window. i have and do recommend Canterbury to anyone who asks about a facility for a loved one to go to. I am so grateful that people I know and trust recommended Canterbury to us.My husband and I were going to look at several facilities for my Mother, but after meeting with Dorene Everts & talking to Linda Comps, a friend of mine, and seeing the facility, we were sold. When my Mother first saw Canterbury, she fell in love with it. She was excited about the beauty shop and the exercise classes.Thank you for running a first-class operation.Linda Fritts - daughter of Freda Hutson
July 2020
I have been an employee of Canterbury for almost 24 years. The reason Ive stayed is because of the amazing amazing dedication that my coworkers provide. Some may say Of course you would say that, you work there. I have over the past few years have had my mother, father, and grandfather- in-law here. I could have taken them to one of the many places in the area, but I knew my family would get the best care at Canterbury.
July 2020
Numerous friends have been residents of Canterbury On The Lake through the years. Two are currently there. Our church has also participated in some service events. When we have visited weve seen pleasant surroundings, cleanliness, good care of residents plus kind and conscientious staff. Good reports from the residents and their families have come to usHaving been a Pharmacist serving a Long Term Care Facility for 26 years, awareness of red flag pop ups can happen even with limited exposure. None have become evident here.We would be very happy to have any of our family members cared for at Canterbury, including help for us if that time comes.
July 2020
My mother was not well when she moved in and after 4 years, she is happy, healthy and thriving. She absolutley loves it here. Her nursers are very attentive and all her needs are met. The communication is excellent and I feel included in all decisions that are made concerning her care.Due to covid, we have not been able to see our loved ones since March. In June, they set up a parade where we could drive by, in our decorated cars, and wave to our loved one. Quite honestly, I burst in to tears when I saw my mother!I will hopefully be moving my mother in law to Canterbury soon!
April 2020
I love working for a company that cares as much as we do for our seniors. Our staff is creative and compassionate. When my Great Aunt was there, she loved all the staff. I knew that she had the best care till the end.
January 2020
As a resident I love my apartment and one of my favorite things is the housekeeping services. You dont have to worry about cleaning it is just done for you! The food is excellent and we have so my options to choose from, which I didnt find at other communities when I was looking around. I also enjoy the open dining hours and different venues here as it gives me the flexibility to do other things and not always have to be committed to A meal at a certain time every day. Also, the activities here at Canterbury are wonderful and I always say if you are board it is your own fault! I really enjoy the outdoor activities like shuffle board and that I am able to walk year round here. I also enjoy that they plan overnight trips for us because I still get to enjoy some of the places I have always gone to over the years like the Young Americans Dinner Theatre in Petoskey. The staff is outstanding as well! They are all very caring and you can tell that they are happy here too. It is also great to see a younger generation who enjoys working and volunteering with seniors. They are all fun and they really brighten our days here at Canterbury! There are just so many wonderful things to say about Canterbury and the people who work here!
January 2020
Canterbury on the Lake is a wonderful community to work for! I have been here since July and I absolutely love it. Staff members are always willing to help others out when they can. Management does many staff contests to boost morale. I love working for a company where customer service is the top priority. The best part of my job is working with the residents, its very rewarding!
January 2020
Canterburys staff is the best that I have ever been around and it seems that they are here to make us all happy. They truly are the best and they all remember your name. This means a whole lot to all the residents here. The community is truly beautiful and you feel comfortable with so many people around I have made so many wonderful friends and this has been a wonderful benefit to living here at Canterbury. Canterbury also has great activities and even if you wanted to participate in them all you couldnt because there isnt enough time in the day. I truly love living at Canterbury-on-the-Lake.
