Worked here for roughly 7 months. Heres my experience: The residents (for the most part) are great. Theyre extremely friendly and happy to socialize with both employees and guests. The complex is quite large, which can be a good thing, but it also entails the difficulties of moving long distances for residents that struggle with walking. However, I havent really witnessed this problem ever really occur. Working here was mostly quite simple. You serve the residents their food, you clean up some dishes, serve a second course when required, and then clean the tables entirely. Depending at the time of day and day of the week, you may have additional jobs such as cleaning the floor or dealing with the trash in the building. However, these jobs arent that difficult, and just add for additional pay, if nothing else. Other employees, at least at the time, were quite friendly and helpful towards newer employees. For my first job, I felt quite at home. Id also like to note that, if hes still working here, the Chef, Doug, is one of the greatest people Ive ever met. Hes akin to a father figure, even. He may be a little harsh on employees, but hes only doing it to help them out, and Im very glad that he treated me the way he did, because it simply encouraged me to work better. Activities at this place seemed to be somewhat lack-luster, and quite scarce. However, after being given the opportunity to manage or assist in activities, I found that a decent amount of the residents were quite pro-active and were happy to participate. Working in this position was definitely enjoyable, and it put a smile on my face to see how many residents were still getting out and taking their opportunity for recreation when they had it. However, at the time, there was a glaring issue, and the sole reason why I left. The management of this place is just a mess. Managers come and go, and no one in a management position has really stayed more than a month. Their reasoning is beyond my understanding, but I assume its just not fulfilling to work under holiday retirement. In the span of the time that I worked, there were 5 managers that had overseen the staff and the building, and they were all very different. It just led to the place constantly changing, and this wasnt really a good thing. Residents had trouble adjusting each time, and both new and old employees were frustrated by the inconsistency. Also, employees all faced with major inequality. With the same jobs, some people were making 10 dollars an hour on their first day, while others, who had been working at the building for several months, werent even considered a pay raise. Polite requesting didnt change this. Age, previous work experience, gender, race, werent factors into this. It was simply given to people who asked for more money on the first day. Because of this. almost all of the previous co-workers that I had seen at Illahee left, even for jobs as just as simple and low-paying. Ive seen several co-workers quit just to work at the McDonalds down the street, and others quitting to work at a gas station. Its a nightmare. Overall, its a really great place, with a great community, but theres just something wrong with the management at Illahee. But, dont quote me on this. It could have very well improved after the time Ive been gone. But Im personally not willing to risk my time to return here.

I deliver groceries for HyVee and the staff and residents are so friendly and helpful. It is a very nice and well kept retirement community. They have a lot of activities and great food the residents love it there.

My mother loves living at Illahee Hills, I always enjoy my time I spend visiting my mother. The staff, food and the residents are the best. I would recomend Illahee Hills for anyone who wants a safe, fun, clean, and overall great place to live.

Ive never experienced anything bad here while visiting my grandparents and they love it here. They are well taken care of and have never expressed concern about anything. You only hear the bad experiences, but what about the hundreds of good experiences? You cant base an opinion off of a couple folks when there are way more satisfied clients that dont access the Internet often.
