Churchman Village – Reviews
June 2024
My grandparents moved into the Atrium last year. They had been looking to downsize and find somewhere they could live without all of the upkeep. Their problem had been that places in the area were either out of their budget or not up to their standards. Finding the Atrium was a blessing! They could afford it, stay close to the community they have so many ties to, and not sacrifice their standards. I have been to visit with my three young children, and everyone there, staff and residents, were very friendly and welcoming. It has been the ideal option for them to maintain a level of independence while greatly reducing the workload that typically comes with it. Update: my grandmother is still very happy with the friendliness and attention of the staff. However, management isn't upkeeping the facility at our expected level. For example, the elevator has been having issues and doesn't work consistently. Being on the second floor using a walker, this has created a lot of issues for her. We are hoping things will improve.

My father has lived at Churchman Village for a year now and I'm so glad we found this place for him. It is within 5 minutes of Christiana Hospital and 10 minutes from his primary care physician. The Village provides a light breakfast, lunch, and dinner to the residents. They also schedule activities such as bingo (which he loves), exercise groups, and people come in to play music (he loves to dance lol) along with other activities. Tiya and Katie are always so kind to all the residents. You can tell they really care. Very happy that dad lives here

My grandmother moved into the Atrium just over 6 months ago. She has lived with me for five years, but I have had two children since then. Though it was a tough decision, my husband and I found it best for her to move into an assisted care facility because she deserved undivided 24/7 care. Unfortunately, having two young children at home, I could not provide her with the care she deserved. When she moved into the Atrium, I could not have been more impressed from the moment we walked in. Not only is the facility exemplary in cleanliness, the kindness and care that the nurses and staff provide set an industry standard and are far superior to other facilities we have visited. Thank you, Churchman's Village, for making a tough decision so much easier. I could not recommend you enough!!

I recently was there for rehab. The staff providing rehab were committed and caring. I only wish they were not time pressured, so they could be relaxed and spend more time with patients. Despite this, they do a good job. The nursing staff including the direct care staff, work very hard. It seems each staff member has many patients to care for, they still do a good job. The facility is cleaned daily and there are no bad smells, even though there is lots of incontinence. The food is good, especially for an institutional setting. The facility is old and not as modern as today's nursing facilities, although they try to make it look as nice as possible. I didn't want to mention any names because I didn't want anyone to feel overlooked. I do have to mention social worker Tish , she is amazing, and can get thing done in a couple of days that it would take others months to do. There are always several issues at anyplace. I do not feel that it is anything worth listing, as they are issues that could easily be resolved. I wasn't there but for a couple of weeks, I would have liked more time and could have made more progress, that's my personal issue.

My mom is in the facility for rehab and we have had a very good experience. We know what bad facilities are like with experiences we had with our dad. The staff is attentive and friendly. The food is good, they have fun activities and she is always clean. The rehab staff has done an excellent job in turning her around and preparing her to come home. She has had no complaints except that some of the staff are unfamiliar working with a port. I’m very surprised all the negative reviews because our experience has been great and we would send her back if we ever need to. Her care here is far superior to the care she received at Christiana Hospital. I didn’t give 5 stars because I never do!

Thanks to all staff at CV for their help and caring during my recent stay. I was attracted there by the reputation of their Occupational and Physical Therapy Dept., and I was not disappointed.

I have been coming to visit my neighbor. The facility seemed very clean and orderly. Good check in methods. Friendly people greeting me. My neighbor states that she has been in other facilities and she states that this facility is her favorite by far. she states that the staff are amazing and very attentive. She gave a shoutout to CNA Michelle on day shift and Flannie in the evening. stating that they are very attentive, personable, and are always willing to help her out even when they are not her assigned aide. She gave a shout out to Nurse Linda and Tamika stating that they are always friendly and will go over the care and answer all questions. She states that the rehab department is the best part. They give advice and show you the proper way to sit, use your walker, and how to navigate turns correctly. They even have a good fall program. She hates to say she needs the program but she is 85 and falls can happen. She feels more and more confident to return home each day she works with Radika and Jasmine! We will recommend Churchman Village to everyone! Thank you for all that you do.

Words cannot express the gratitude towards the Churchman Village and their rehab center. Churchman Village provided my mom with excellent care. Our family, thank you for giving her the love and attention she needed. From admissions, nurses, therapy, social workers, activities, financial staff, front desk clerks, your attention to me moms needs were above and beyond!! I will never forget mom telling me that your staff loved her! In these trying times and dealing with Covid-19, you took all the necessary precautions to ensure everyones safety! Thanks again from the bottom of moms and the families heart. We will definitely recommend this facility for rehab and for long term.

It is the only facility that myself and my family will go to for rehab. The therapy team is wonderful. They really work to get you back to being independent to go back home. The nursing staff are responsive and do care about your needs. The staff are caring, compassionate, and kind.

My mother was discharged from Christiana Hospital to Churchman Village for their rehab services. Her care has exceeded me and my mothers expectations. Great caring staff and one of the few facilities in NCC with no COVID-19 cases. My mother greatly appreciated the special care provided by the following staff: Radhika – Director - PT Jasmine, Kim and Ellyn – OT Dept. Pooja, Beno, Carina – PT Dept Jennifer – Speech Therapy

Our mother has been a resident at the atrium for a few years now and she loves it and so do we. The atrium has provided incredible peace of mind for myself and the rest of my family from many of the worries we had when mom was living alone. Sydney has done a great job providing resources when we need them and communicating with us in many different instances. Jisel has become really close with my mom and is super helpful to her. I would recommend the atrium to anyone looking for support for their aging parents. Thank you to Sydney and the team for all you do everyday!!

I have been the mailman for this retirement home for many years. delivering here is my favorite part of each day. the staff is always so welcoming and you can just feel the positive vibes though out the community. There is some type of activity going on here daily. Bingo, musical entertainment and even a car show just to name a few. Evett seems to be the residents favorite. wherever she is there is always a crowd. She really seems to enjoy her work. she takes the residents out on trips to all sorts of places. I see her playing games with them and even doing there nails. It wasnt always this way. when I first started delivering here there were many vacancies. once Sydney took over as director everything changed for the better. She filled the place up and has maintained a near full occupancy though out her tenure. Sydney seems to genuinely care about the residents happiness. they seem to be very comfortable about approaching her with issues and from my bank of mailboxes I can observe her weekly meetings were all the residents gather to express any concerns they have. When I reach that golden age this is the place I would want to be.

Bravo to Team Atrium! My parents are residents and are incredibly impressed with the teams care during the Coronavirus Outbreak. Team Atrium has taken steps to make sure residents are safe (including delivering meals to their rooms) and are going over and above to keep residents spirits high. It means the world to me knowing that my parents feel supported and protected. Bless all of you for your dedication and kind hearts.

My grandfather came here for a short-term stay. He needed IV antibiotics, a wound vac for his wound that wasnt healing, and rehabilitation. This facility was very close to our home which was convenient for us family, especially for my grandmothers daily visits. My grandfather had no issues, nor did we as his family. He received exceptional care. He was discharged home after completion of his treatment. Fast forward a few years... my aunt needs long term care placement and we chose Churchman Village. She has been a resident for over a year and is currently residing there. What I want you to take from this review... The building is older, and it shows. But the staff are what makes it. Are all staff perfect? No. Thats unrealistic. But let me tell you that some are more than amazing. Two aids in particular, Tia and Les-Lee, have gone above and beyond to take care of my aunt. From toileting her a ridiculous amount of times when she said she needed to pee and didnt... to laying beside my aunt in the bed until she fell asleep during a rough evening. My aunt is a tough cookie to care for, yet they do it well, and most importantly they do it with compassion. I read some of the negative reviews on here, which inclined me to write this post. I think ppl come into this with unrealistic expectations. Complaints of smelling urine?? You are in a facility with a hundred people, and many are incontinent. Do you expect never to smell urine? Do you expect not to smell feces after a patient has a bowel movement? I visit multiple times a week and have yet to come in to experience the horrors ppl are claiming.

My mother moved into the Atriums independent living two weeks ago. So far, it has been a very good experience. Sydney, the director, has been extremely accommodating and responsive to all our questions. Susan, the activities assistant, is genuinely kind-hearted and makes the activities fun and entertaining. The maintenance and atrium aides have been welcoming and helpful. So far, so good.

A few weeks ago we visited The Atrium as we are looking for a new home for our parents who are starting to need more assistance. The Atrium is a great facility, definitely not what we expected when we started considering senior living options. We were impressed. I witnessed the staff being very interactive, helpful and kind to the residents who live in the community. The residents seem to be very happy, some were doing arts and crafts and others playing bowling on the video game. Sidney has been very helpful and resourceful prior to the tour when we were trying to determine if independent living is the right level of care needed for my parents, giving us some pointers on if and when to start the Medicaid process and also when showing us around the community. Unfortunately our parents will need more care so they will be going to an assisted living community but my siblings and I wish that we had found The Atrium a few years ago so that our parents could have been a part of this community!!

My mother, in her 90s, moved into Atrium more than a month ago. Atrium is perfect for my mother. Everyone, from Sydney, the Atrium Director to Susan, the Activities Director has been extremely helpful and most importantly so very friendly. The other residents are also very kind and friendly to us. That was what appealed to my mother and myself when we first visited Atrium. Mom is enjoying the food activities (band concert one evening for example) and the hair salon. With everyday since Mom moved into Atrium, I have seen a positive change in her--it has been such a joy for us all that she is happy with her life! From Katie who makes her bed each morning to Julian who is with maintenance, everyone makes Mom feel that she matters to them and that they care about her.

My mom loves the Atrium. She has met a lot of great people. It is close to me but she has the freedom to be on her own. Her apartment is beautiful. I would recommend The Atrium at Churchman Village highly!!

Churchman Village exceeded my expectations and I have worked for years in the nursing home business. Everyone was kind and helpful, especially DeAnna the Admissions Director who assisted me with placing my Mother for skilled care. The nurses and PT (Pria and Keisha) department really made a difference in her speedy recovery. I am happy that she is returning home and would highly recommend Churchmans for skilled care. Thank you all for making a difference in the lives of our seniors!

Great physical therapy team -- they helped me a lot. Wish they did outpatient therapy.

All of the staff went above and beyond. When I was at Christiana Hospital I was given a list of facilities to tour. I stopped by Churchman unannounced and was met with Deana. She was very helpful and explained how the process works. We decided to have mom go to churchman village for rehab The director of rehab, Rhadkia has been great. She takes the time out to explain everything and is truly focusing on what is best for the patient and wants them to regain their Independence. She is a gem. The whole therapy department are all very caring and excellent. The nursing department are very caring and take the time with the patients. If you are searching for a rehab look no further. Churchman Village is an excellent choice. God Bless Mrs. Gibbs.

Mom is finally enjoying life. My mom had lived alone for many years and she was alone last March she became critically ill. After a long stay in the hospital and rehab, we started looking for a place where she could come out of her shell, meet people and enjoy life again. A Place for Mom recommended Churchman's Village Atrium and after meeting Sydney, touring the apartments and meeting residents, I was excited for mom to move in! I was able to decorate her apartment so cute and she has really thrived there, I no longer have to worry about her eating right because the meals and menus are great, I don't have to worry about her falling with no one there to help her. She's made friends, goes on outings. Best of all, my handicapped brother stays on the weekend sometimes and the staff and residents are so nice to him. I live in NC and she didn't want to move out of state because of my brother so this has been such a load off my mind knowing she's well taken care of. They have great field trips and activities including family game night! Where we all got together to compete! Hilarious! And it's water in the cups! LOL! I visit often and the staff and residents make me feel right at home too!

My parents have been at the Atrium Independent Living Center for over a year. I love visiting them there, since they're so active now. The staff is friendly and kind. The apartments are spacious and comfortable. The meals are good and they have choices. The staff provides not only activities, but entertainment as well. I now have peace of mind knowing they are surrounded by people who care about them.

My parents (92 & 81) moved into the Atrium in August 2017. I traveled from my home in the Seattle area to help them with the move and stayed in their 2 bed/2 bath apartment in August 2017, in February 2018 and just concluded an 11-day stay with them. Management and staff have created a warm and safe environment for this small community of residents (about 40). Staff are always friendly and caring. Yes, I could stay at a hotel but honestly, I enjoy spending time at the Atrium. The facility is bright and cheery with sunlight filling the open common area. Staff genuinely like the residents and spend time talking with them. The activities are FUN thanks to the most amazing Activities Director! My mother, at 81, is Wii bowling! And shes singing and doing exercises and both my parents are playing bingo and going to Happy Hour on Fridays. And if thats not enough, there are special programs like the German Polka Band that played for us on Thursday night and the Family/Resident/Staff Game Night on Saturday. I am so grateful to Sydney, Susan, Stefan and the dedicated team at the Atrium. They rock!

Had my mom transferred here. Staff are great and friendly. The therapy department is very attentive and thorough. The nursing team and therapy department are very accommodating. Even the receptionist is friendly, greeting with a smile. Very clean building. I call all the time and check in on her and the nurses have no problem updating me. I greatly appreciate Churchman Village and its employees. They are all great. Thank you

It's very bittersweet to be moving my dad away from The Atrium (the independent living side of Churchman Village) because everything about this experience has been wonderful. The staff couldn't be warmer! They are all so friendly & sweet with my dad and truly caring and considerate. And they make him laugh! I like that it's a smaller resident community... feels like a friendly little neighborhood. They all sang him a farewell song today! I'm moving him out to Los Angeles to be near me but it's sad to take him away from here and I will miss visiting everyone. Even the maintenance guys are lovely!

My husband and I are seniors residing at The Atrium (not to be confused with the nursing facility)at Churchman Village. We have been here for a year and are happy being in a small community. The residents and staff are friendly and caring and the Atrium is clean and well kept. At first, we were disappointed with the food, however the dining staff has made improvements and we now enjoy appetizing meals. We would recommend the Atrium for the above reasons as well as ongoing activities.

Rehab I recently was a patient at Churchman's Village for rehabilitation. I cannot give enough praise to show how much I enjoyed my stay. Everyone was cheerful and helpful. The food was outstanding and the care impeccable. I would highly recommend Churchman's Village to everyone.
