Somerford Place of Encinitas – Reviews
Our sister is a new resident and she is happier there than she has been lately as her condition progressed. She’s connected with other residents as best one could in memory care, and very content. The director Heather gave us sage advice and so accurately described the best way to make the transition. Staff is welcoming , calm smiling and so steady in their positive attitude The facility is cheerful, bright , and very clean. We are so appreciative of everything Summerfield has done for our family member. Thomas Fitzgerald
ust was so impressed with summerfield we recently toured and then placed my mom at Summerfield. The community is clean and smells amazing. The staff are so compassionate. They care about my mom and my family. The Executive Director went way above and beyond the community relations Director Walked me through every part of the admission and held our hand when we were worried and scared of the process. They love my mom as if she was their own family. The nursing director is compassionate and attentive. My family can not be happier with this community.
We just moved our dad here and we are blessed by the director and everyone on board staff. They have gone above and beyond to help him adjust to his new home. It's a small community that's a hidden gem in Encinitas. Thank you for all that you do to help people with dementia.
Summerfield is a great little community. My aunt loves living here they are caring and attentive. She was at a larger community that we thought had everything but she was forgotten and left sitting in her room all the time. She is now out every day and she is in activities making friends. They really care about her and all the residents. Summerfield has a new Director and she is making great new changes. It is nice to see her in the community and meeting us families. She really cares about our family members and I finally feel safe leaving my aunt knowing that she is safe and loved. Thank you Summerfield.
Summerfield is a great community with a family feeling. Care staff are wonderful and caring. Food is prepared with love and attention to diets. I cannot say enough about summerfield.
Julie White has exceeded my expectations as a great communicator and excels in customer service.
Thank you, Julie, for helping make my moms stay at Somerford Place a safe, loving, and clean environment. The paths outside with lovely gardens was a place mom really enjoyed, and I appreciate the sweet care all the staff took for she and the other residents.
Julie is a knowledgeable and trusted resource whom Ive worked with for years. Somerford Place of Encinitas is an excellent solution for families in need of quality memory care in a gorgeous, spacious leafy nature setting. I absolutely give Julie and Somerford Place a well deserved 5 STARS!!
When I was searching for a memory care location for my sister, my top two criteria were a knowledgeable and friendly staff and opportunities for her to socialize. The Covid model at Somerford is that residents are in a bubble, so that they are able to move around within the facility, do activites and eat meals together. The staff at Somerford treats her with respect and affection and understands her needs as a person with dementia. I feel very fortunate, with the guidance of a friend, to have found Somerford and am assured that this is the best place I could have possibly found for my sister.
Our friends from Rancho Santa Fe were searching for Memory Care for their Mom. Somerford Place of Encinitas turned out to be the perfect spot. The staff are highly competent, warm and caring. The care provided is exceptional. The staff knows how to make residents with dementia feel special, safe, happy and cared for. There are a wide range of activities provided daily. The food is great and the building itself is immaculate, bright, light and lots of sunshine comes in. There is a wonderful feel to this place. Our friends Mom especially loves the secure outdoor walking trails, courtyards, indoor walking areas and the lovely gardens. Somerford Place is a gem!
My mother turns 97 this year and has memory issues. I wanted to find a place that supported her autonomy but also was able to provide round the clock care. My mother loves the open floor concept, walking paths and comfortable seating on the patio. The staff is loving and attentive and the activity program is Montessori based to cover all aspects of body mind and spirit. The community at Somerford really makes it feel like home. Family Visitation is a top priority during Covid with regular Zoom calls and window visits. The building is clean and attended to. The activity classes are interactive and engaging, its wonderful to see my mother lively and active! The staff is top quality and so responsive (impressively so during the pandemic) especially considering the at risk population of memory care facilities, they have been more than accommodating to my questions, concerns, and visitations with my mom. I can relax knowing my mom is safe, happy, and well cared for. Somerford is quaint and charming and really is a wonderful community. Outdoor accessibility is essential for my mom, her time to connect with nature has been key to her ability to thrive, and Somerford provides daily walks and has an amazing layout that allows for REAL nature walks. I highly recommend this facility and their staff, my mother and I have had a wonderful experience all around.
I have worked in the senior care industry for 17 years and know the communities in North County quite well.My experience in working with the sales and management team to potentially place new residents with them has been outstanding, particularly during this pandemic time. Their response to safety concerns has been exemplary. My clients who have selected Somerford Place for their loved ones have been very happy with the quality of care and responsiveness. I highly recommend it!
My mother is a resident of Somerford Place. She has been in other facilities and Somerford is by far the best place for a person with dementia-Alzheimers. Their program is engaging and stimulating; the residents are out of their room, participating, well fed and very well cared for. The design of the building, divided into four small (14 person) communities, allows for a non institutional feeling and does not overwhelm either residents or guests. There are nice, safe, enclosed patios for being outside to sit in the sun. The staff and management are not only competent and professional but also very kind and caring. Somerford Place is an excellent facility for Alzheimers patients and we are 100% satisfied with the care and services they are giving my mother.
5 stars all the way around since moving my mom to Sommerford Place!
I have been a licensed assisted living Administrator here in San Diego for over 20 years and have seen many residents receive great care at Somerford Place Encinitas. More recently Ive had the opportunity to work more closely with the Administrator Kenya. He is dedicated, smart, responsive, caring and finds outside-the-box solutions. Their distinct neighborhoods in the building feel like distinct neighborhoods. The staff Ive worked with have been knowledgeable, experienced and caring.
My mother had been living with my brother, however, her dementia had progressed to where he could no longer manage her care in his home. We mistakenly moved her into an assisted living facility close to Somerford Place thinking it would give her a more normal experience, but it quickly became obvious that they were unable to give her the attention she needed. In realizing this, we took the time to look at many memory care facilities (including Board and Care homes) and, after visiting Somerford Place and speaking to a relative of a long-time Somerford resident, we decided to move her here.Since then, Ive had much contact with the office and care staff. Their Sales Director Carrie Compton performs her job like a Social Worker; what are the specifics of the situation and, with all things considered, what is the best solution at hand. She was conscientious, professional and gave me a very comprehensive tour. The entire staff is friendly, engaged and attentive. They are all personable, dedicated and welcoming to visitors. They were quick to learn my mothers idiosyncrasies and adapt to them. Their programs are enjoyable, upbeat and professional. My mother is happier and more relaxed because of how well she is being taken care of.In summary, I was nervous about moving her to a memory care facility as I imagined that it would be an environment that would be un-stimulating and sad. At Somerford Place, this couldnt be further from the truth. I recommend them wholeheartedly.
I recently took a tour of Somerford Place of Encinitas. The people that work there are so friendly and the grounds are beautiful! The garden area is amazing, far better than any other place I visited.
When looking for a Memory Community, Somerford Place is located close to freeway and hospitals serving Encinitas, CA area. Staff is professional and I have had the pleasure of working with them providing concierge ambulance transportation. Beautiful building and plenty of daily activities to keep the residents engaged. Families always welcome!
We were called in to to some cleaning-maintenance work here at Somerford Place. We were here for a full day on one day, then for 4 hours on another day. My helper and I let the staff know how much we appreciated seeing how loving and caring the staff was to the residents there. We truly appreciated seeing this! Please continue doing this to those there that need this kindness! It appears that those that work here are trained in having a Positive Mental Attitude and are actually applying this council.
While visiting my uncle from out of state I was impressed at the compassion and care that my uncle received. Everyone knows him by name and I was able to enjoy lunch and activities with him. The executive director, nurse, and care giving were up dance with the residents and having so much fun. It was good to see my uncle enjoy these simples things in life. Highly recommended and looking forward to the next visit.
My mom is turning 95 this year, and has been at Somerford for a year already. Shes been in assisted living for 3 years now, and Somerford Place is where she finally feels comfortable. It is such a homey, comfortable, easy environment for her, and she loves it! Granted, as she says, its not her home, but, she loves the staff, and they seem to love her. Its great to see how well she is getting along with the other residents too. She may not always want to participate in the wonderful activities that are always available, but shes happy to have the option. The food is delicious (Ive eaten with her several times), and healthy.Choosing Somerford Place was the best decision I could have made on her behalf. I am so impressed with everyone Ive had the pleasure to talk with - the director, Lori, all the staff, and many of the residents as well. There used to be a monthly get-together for all family-caregivers, and I hope they start that again. It was a perfect venue to meet with others in similar care-giving situations. It is a wonderful, caring community.
Been coming to this facility for a few years never had a friendly experience The facility always had a smelly odor.lately I have notice that there are new faces One of the new faces I was introduced to the directory his name is Kenya Carlton Ive notice every since his arrival he has brought order he Has made employees a lot more responsible. Instead of you visiting the facility and having to pray before Entering is now getting more more pleasant to visit I just want to say thanks for the great improvement keep up the good work Kenya and the Floor staff!!!!
I attended the facilitys recent 50s themed and car showcase. The facility is very homey. The administrator is very dedicated to the residents. The onsite chef, Sid, who I met at the event was a great host and caterer. I would recommend this facility for my loved one(s).
As a professional in the Senior care industry myself, I can attest to the excellent level of care Somerford Place Encinitas provides their clients. Kenya, their Executive Director, displays a vested interest in the level of attentiveness and safety they provide their seniors. From the moment you walk in the door, the staff makes you will feel welcomed and at home. There are always a variety of engaging activities for their clients to partake in and they even offer a day program for those not currently necessitating overnight care. It can be difficult to choose the right place for your loved one, Somerford Place Encinitas should be at the top of your list. Thank you Somerford Place Encinitas for your excellence!
This is a very cozy and quaint memory care facility. It is quiet and tucked away, sweet and charming. The staff is very professional, compassionate and caring. I teach Fitness-Gentle Movement once a week, entertain for birthdays and other occasions as a pianist and vocalist and also do presentations on art and historical subjects. I love the residents, they are very well taken care of. Very clean, family-friendly and safe atmosphere for your loved ones.
While visiting my uncle I was very impressed with all the activities your facility offers. My uncle really enjoys living there and calling it his home. I met the new executive director, nurse and new business office manager. They were very kind and took the time to answer all my questions. I would most definitely recommend Somerford Place.
thank you Lori, Kelley, Carrie, Logan, Lexi and all the caretakers. You have all been wonderful in dealing with my husband under these difficult circumstances. Your compassion and care are much appreciated!
When her diagnosis of Alzheimers became all too apparent, I finally accepted my mothers needs had changed. After visiting half a dozen facilities, I decided to move her from assisted living to a place where everyone was experiencing varieties of this same problem. I chose Somerford Place in Encinitas, a small residence with only about 40 or 45 residents where all the employees could get to know her and me. The director explained the caregivers had been trained to deal with the ever changing conditions of Alzheimers. During that first year there was a strong director and a staff recruited by the director who helped residents participate in daily activities such as chair exercises, music, art projects, and games. There were monthly support group meetings and many chances to speak with staff members. Family and friends were always welcomed, and some of us got to know each other. When the initial director left, she took a number of staff members with her. A skeleton staff made it more difficult for Somerford to transition to another director. Several have come and gone. I was discouraged until they managed to hire Lori. Today I believe Somerford staff and residents are once again in good hands with a new director who does not confine herself to a front office but circulates through the building talking to residents, staff, and family. She has plans for a community garden with residents participation. On Fathers Day she has planned entertainment, a cookout for residents and their families, and an antique car show. I sense she is evaluating staff and trying to make adjustments to their schedules as she hires new caregivers. She volunteered that she loves Somerford because it is small and she has every intention of staying. Staff members tell me they like her. This is all good. Alzheimers is devastating to ones family. It is ever changing. Today my mother can do almost nothing for herself. Caregivers get her up in the morning, dress her, change her, put her in a wheelchair, take her to meals, and yes, even feed her. If she has a bruise, they call me and the Hospice nurse. When her feet swell, they know to take off her socks and put her in a recliner. They talk with Hospice staff about her needs. They clean her room and make sure to get her to the in house beauty salon each week. In nice weather they encourage her to sit out in the warm court yard. Each of these matters seem more important to me than to her as she continues to lose memory and weight and sleeps more and more, all signs of this disease as it relentlessly pursues the person you love. If you are looking for a place for one of your relatives, it is tempting to choose a place where you think you might like to live. You want a private room, good food, an open visitation policy, activities, a caring staff. You can get this at Somerford. But as Alzheimers progresses, priorities change. Ones needs are simple: safety, quality care and compassion. I believe Somerford Encinitas exhibits these qualities under the direction of Lori.
As an entertainer and performer, I am allowed to see first-hand how the staff engages and interacts with the residents. From what I have observed during my tenure of 6 plus years, and now under the guidance of Lori Hansen, Executive Director, I am pleased to place a rating of five stars for this facility. The care, compassion, kindness and warm-hearted attention each resident receives fills my heart with gladness. The staff is alert, attentive, responsive and fully understands their role as healthcare caregivers. I would not hesitate to recommend this facility based on my observations and interactions with the staff.
